Impact Vision
As sports documentaries fly onto streaming platforms, there is still an overwhelming lack of female protagonists on television. With a clear disparity in team sport dropout rates in the mid-late teens between girls and boys, one thing continues to ring true, you can’t be what you can’t see.
GO BIG’s vision is to normalise and hero the broadcasting and media coverage of women in sports, promote world-class, female role models for future generations, and inspire fully professional basketball in Australia for women.
What we aim to achieve by making this documentary:
Fully professional basketball in Australia for women
To broadcast the unheard voices of some of Australia’s most successful athletes
To generate a greater community understanding of the experiences women face as professional athletes
To promote greater inclusion and access to sport for women
To inspire all viewers to persevere through setbacks and pursue their personal and professional goals
To promote inspiring female role models in sport
What actions we’d like the audience to take after viewing:
To engage with female sports more consistently
To view female sport as its own unique product
To discuss solutions for bridging the salary disparity between genders
To create more content about women in sport
To reveal the return on investment potential associated with women’s sport
Director’s Statement
"...one of my first memories watching live sport was my Dad taking me to the 1999 WNBL grand final. An exciting Australian Institute of Sport side - made up of 17 and 18 year-olds - was trying to be the first AIS team to take the professional women’s title..."
